We are excited to announce the creation of the CMW Top 50 Music Industry
Leaders list. Nominations are now open and close one month later, Oct. 20, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (ET).
The list will be announced on Dec. 4, 2023.
The music industry is invited to self-nominate or nominate a staff member or colleague.
The web form is available on CMW’s website here. The nominee must be a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or resident. Canadians working around the globe are also eligible.
“In any given year at Canadian Music Week, you don’t have to look far to find top industry leaders sharing their insights and success secrets,” says CMW president Neill Dixon. “Assembling them into the ultimate list is the next logical step. It is our honour to welcome the best of the best each year. And, with CMW’s Top 50 Music Industry Leaders list, our intent is to deservedly honour them.”
The list, held in the strictest confidence until publication date, will be determined after careful consideration of an individual’s accomplishments from the previous 12 months, supplied to CMW, via the submission process. The final list may also include individuals not nominated, as decided by CMW by examining various available data, including ticket sales, chart positions, streaming numbers, YouTube plays, social media breakthroughs, market share and other significant statistics.
A leader can be a person in any music industry role who has been instrumental in the success of an artist or business. Only members of the music industry, or artists who also run a company with staff, will be considered.
Examples of key accomplishments can be chart-topping song or album, a global headlining tour, increased revenue, a major collaboration, a big fundraiser, film/TV/game placement, personal promotion, change at a company, new project or innovation.
We encourage you to look at your staff, no matter how long they may have been in the business, and evaluate if they have come up with an idea that led to, for example, a song that broke or a particularly impactful video or a suggestion for an artist to co-write with someone that led to a hit, or an innovative marketing campaign that brought in a whole new audience. Give credit where credit is due.
The 42nd Annual Canadian Music Week will take place June 2-8, 2024 in Toronto.
